Hempcrete… A Home Construction Breakthrough

YVH November 17, 2019

Background

Your Valuable Home is back at its regular time this Sunday, 6:00 p.m., and we have a great show for you.  In the Replay, Andrew talks about what he was looking for in a rental property.  He found it in Hilltown, Bucks County.  He got the property for about $100,000 less than asking, because it needs some work, which he is going to do.  Taxes are only $2,700 a year. In our Horror Story, Joe Kraus recounts how he was shaken down by not one, but two flooring contractors who signed up to lay three floors of luxury, vinyl plank in a family-owned Victorian in Cape May.  Joe paid $28,000 for the material and gave the first contractor 50% of his costs up front.  He threw that contractor off the job, upon finding two of his workers alcohol-impaired.  He then gave the job and some front money to a second contractor.  The flooring was supposed to be done by June of 2019, and it’s still far from complete.  Our College this Sunday is the fascinating story of hempcrete, a mixture of hemp and lime that is poised to become a terrific substitute for fiberglass insultation in residential construction.  This fire, water and insect- proof material has been lowering energy bills in Europe since the 70s and 80s.
